Importing .mpeg into AE

I am trying to import .mpeg file into AE and it doesn't seem to support them. The mpeg files are the capture I did in Premiere. Anyone have any ideas?

Many camera capture to tape in the MPEG or M2T format which is compressed. For example a raw MPEG might me 100Mb files but when processed to MJPEG B is could easily be 500Mb or probably much bigger. MPEG would be great but most stock agencies do not accept them yet. It takes a lot more processing time if they were to accept them, easier to have us process them first. Expect many format changes in the stock video world over the next couple of years.

I get the whole mpeg to mov conversion... that wasn't the question :-).

I am trying to import .mpeg into AE for stabilization, but get an error that it cannot import .mpeg files. So.. what is the best workflow. Save as .mov with 100 quality (mpeg to mov in APP), then import into AE and then stabilize, then export as .mov to upload?

That's what I did when I needed to get mpg video into AE, convert to another format at high quality, then import it to AE.

lol you have 2 options....

1. Buy a 500 dollar plugin for AE that lets you import mpeg2 files ... OR
2. Just rename the extension to an AVI file!

HA! Thats one of my evil little tricks, if you change the file name from "mark_rules.mpg" to "mark_rules.avi" it works!! I don't know why, but it does!

and its lossless! go try it....

super amazing cool . Where do I send the $500 to now Mark? Your home address ? :-) Thank you. I will give this a try when I get a chance at AE again. (I don't own it yet... but might buy it depending on usefulness)
