Highest Bit Rate ?

Just reading DCP specs - found out that max bit rate is 250 mbit/sec! That is for cinema screen, the biggest one that one could dream of and it does not matter res/frame rate or anything else. I know the idea of having more to have space/room to cut from but sometimes is not really necessary. Anyway, at least we can take it as a guide line when we have no other measure.

But thats for final product 250 mbit/sec.. So to get that final of 250 mbit/sec but perfect 250 mbit/sec.. you have to do lots and lots of staff on set or in post production.. If you have any mistake on set, you need best possible file to get it right in the post to get that perfect final DCP 250 mbit/sec..

If I understand the DCP format correctly, it can carry 2K at up to 60 fps, but 4K at up to 30 fps. (It will probably be 48fps for 2K and 24 fps for 4K in most instances.) I just studied up on a new compression standard called JPEG XS, which supersedes the JPEG2000 compression that DCP uses. With JPEG2000, 4:1 compression is considered "lossless," while JPEG XS up to 10:1 compression is considered "lossless." So a future DCP format could support 4K at 48 fps.

I said that JPEG XS supersedes the JPEG2000 compression because it is the same family of compression technology. Like JPEG2000, JPEG XS has minimal lag and uses few resources at both the encoding and decoding sides of the process.

Here is an interesting article on JPEG XS, and its predecessor, JPEG2000: https://www.tvtechnology.com/broadcast-engineering/jpeg-xs-reduces-cabling-bandwidth-needs
