Snake River Dam Removal Protest Rallies - Tacoma
(12)Protest rallies held in Tacoma WA to remove the lower 4 Snake River Dams in order to protect salmon reproduction and the local Orca Whale pods dependent upon Chinook salmon for survival. The rallies included a march to the local Congressional officials' offices in downtown Tacoma, and a Totem Pole Journey celebration by the Lummi Tribe's "House of Tears Carvers" at St. Leo's Church in Tacoma. The carvers sang and drummed next to a large totem pole honoring Orca whale J-35 Tahlequah and her dead baby. Tahlequah carried her calf Cali's body for 17 days in grief when Cali died shortly after birth in 2018.
