The Mirror of Thresholds (A Decaphonic Cycle for Piano and Orchestra)

(4)

This work reimagines the idea of a piano concerto by dissolving the traditional divide between soloist and orchestra. The piano does not stand apart to dazzle against a symphonic backdrop, but moves within the ensemble like a “first among equals,” sharing and exchanging musical ideas in ever-shifting, chamber-like textures. Each movement is built on a unique set of ten pitches, creating a rich yet subtly incomplete sound world, where timbres intertwine, roles constantly shift, and no instrument dominates for long. The result is an intricate, fluid, and multi-voiced journey in which the piano’s brilliance emerges not from isolation, but from its seamless integration into the living fabric of the music — an invitation to listen closely, and to be drawn into its luminous interplay.
