Guys,
This weekend I went to a wedding in Dallas.
Well, one of the people standing in the wedding happened to be a video editor for a local company that makes television commercials.
After the wedding he brought us back to his office for a tour.
I was like a kid in a candy store, this place had more sound proof rooms where they did voice over and editing then I could count.
He showed us a couple of commercials he just finished for Harrah's casino and one for Paula Dean on the Food Channel.
Some of the shots in the commercial was shot on location but he pointed out 3 or 4 shots in each commercial that was stock footage that they buy.
When I told him I did stock video he only knew of the more traditional high price stock agencies where they buy footage for hundreds or thousands of dollars. He didn't have a clue about Pond 5 so he (I hope) will stop by here for his next project.

Its traditional stock houses like Corbis but there a tight knit place that is exclusive and you almost have to be invited to be there. The other issue is, it sounds nice but you may only get one sale a year.
The big buyers are learning about Microstock and buying here.
Much better to be here.

It would be nice if P5 had a PDF flyer advertisement we could download. I'd print a dozen or more copies and mail them to all the TV stations and editing houses in my area.
Also, I'd love to have the Pond5 logo stuff downloadable so that I could use it in some of my online advertising projects.

Hehe... See what happens when a vendor like Pond5 works WITH artists by not only being fair, but also listening, conversing and acting on the needs of the artists...? They not only become the artists favorite, but also we end up doing a lot of work ourselves to make sure they flourish.
Seems bizarre that P5 is the only one that recognizes this concept.

Those other sites are a dying breed I think. They will either have to change their business model or they will go out of business.... eventually.
....and with the Scarlet RED camera coming out next year for only 3000 dollars it will level the playing field completely. Anyone with the know how, and a little capital could potentially make high end commercials or movies. The film maker will not be as good as the equipment he buys, but how knowledgeable he is.

Big news! (Yawn) One of the competitor sites, and i won't mention any names here, decided to finally let all video artists use FTP instead of the browser based upload - but they still suck rock when it comes to commissions. P5 is definately starting to cause a stir in the industry. Yupee!

That site not to be named also currently has a one month wait time on uploads til they come online. I make pretty good revenue there, but the wait time is very frustrating.
On the original subject of the thread, good job kk5hy. We need to get more editors and producers aware of P5.
