what has changed After 7 years Pond5?

Hello all, after 7 years i'm thinking of going back in to stockvideo.
I wonder what has changed over the last 5 years. My sales are down to 0 now but the are all HD and medium quality.
Is it still worth the effort? Thanks!

Less so now than ever before. Also we get less of a percentage here and at the majority of other sites. It's an unfortunate answer to give, but it is the truth.

I would NOT worry about your older content being HD, last I heard HD was still the most common selling stock as if it's being used for works to be aired on YouTube or cell phones they don't need 4K and it conserves bandwidth so 4K is still not for everything and for everyone, depends what type of content you have I guess.

I'd also upload the stuff you think will never sell, you never know but it's not just the good stuff that sells.

Edit: Just tonight two editorial clip sales came in, both HD.

Is there an algorithm that makes you sell less when not active on the website?
And what about the percentage? Not 50% anymore?

As far as algorithm, no one can answer that for sure except people that would never answer that. It's the secret formula, that changes from time to time. Maybe some of this is still COVID, maybe it's just not as busy here for my work as it used to be. It's hard to know, everyone's success varies so much. I know there was a large downturn for allot of regulars here, but we heard well P5 as a whole is making more than ever. What is good for the boss isn't always good for the workers. So when you asked, I can only answer from my own perspective. I make less here now than I used to with allot less content.

Yeah the percentage is no longer 50% unless your exclusive to Pond5. If your exclusive you get a better deal, if you have not been here in a long time there is some agreement you might have never agreed to? Not really sure how that went if you just never came back after a time of uploading, or how long it has been that you have not been here.

One thing that has been said about the algorithm not only here but at other sites is "The more you sell the more you WILL sell" and I believe that's true, I've seen the patterns, a couple of sales and then more sales and more sales and sometimes it's the same clips so the algorithm must boost those clips and/or the profile once sales do happen but once there is a slow period of no sales you slide right back down to the bottom I think.

It might well be, I know my best sellers here were not my best sellers on other sites allot of the time. So it would seem logical that clips with a sale where boosted in ranking at both sites. It is tough to know any of it for sure though.

The thing I like the least is when you look back at a clip you really liked, or liked creating and notice it has zero views and zero sales. It's kind of sad, it didn't even get watched. I try not to pay to much attention to any of it these days, it helps you stay inspired when it is just about doing the work.

percentage is %40 for non-exclusive and %60 for exclusive. currently, its the best among the other stock websites as far as i know

I know the feeling, my best stuff never sells, the stuff I was so excited about and was a "guaranteed sale" nothing, the stuff that's definitely not perfect ends up selling and it's always been like that for me which also tells me there's a demand for stuff that isn't so perfect so I just upload everything and the customer can decide.

"I just upload everything and the customer can decide."

Yeah after allot of years of doing this I think that's the best way. I have had some great sellers I almost didn't upload.
