Just received an email from pond5 that our work will be sold through shutterstock, I hope we will not receive 25 cents for a photo and a couple of dollars for a video

It's sad to hear that news. Pond 5 and their ability to price content has been my main impulse to contribute here, specially my exclusive content. If for example Adobe would have bought it I would have not worried that much. But Shutterstock is the agency that treat contributors with the most disrespect as they have shown lowering commissions to 15% to videos and selling for under 1$ as reported on other forums (I don't contribute there anymore).

Not encouraging at all hearing this.

Who bought whom? Because the SS ran out of bosses, I suspect Pond5 bought the SS. Let's hope that the rules of the SS will not be imposed here.

I just hope they won't destroy us who criticized Shutterstock.

I left SS for a reason, I don’t want to be back with them. The CEO became a billionaire, while giving the contributors pennies on the dollar. As well as, my sister was a reviewer for SS, and they had it set up, doing piece work, that she could not download enough at a time to make a real living. Not at first, but after 10 years of service, they put a strangle hold on the reviewers. Same as being a contributor, we used to get actual money for our work, and it kept creeping down, until, almost nothing. This is very bad news, if P5 follows SS practices. Not happy with this…..but I technically retired a few years ago, they are still just selling my old stuff. For the people that are able to make a living here, it is a sad day.

This is awful news. I've always tried to avoid SS but now I'm forced to be part of them. Reminds me of when PA Media bought another agency I'm with, where contributors are still picking up the pieces. Our sales commission will soon drop along with the prices. Why don't these agencies learn that the race to the bottom only leads to disaster.
