I have seen that symbols from famous companies also sell. Is it ok to upload more material like this or should I keep my fingers from such things?

Thanks for your experience sharing.

touchy ,,, it's up to P5 if they will accept videos where the main subject is a copyright logo. My guess is no.

I think you should avoid it.
Stock agencies dont like it.

BUT If I were a CEO of a big company I would want all the free advertising I could get, and I certaintly wouldn't waste my time suing small time stock producers to prevent that free advertising. so I don't see what the big deal is.

Whatever! Just avoid it :P :)

Ok, maybe it is better

I've always assumed that the Editorial category is for stuff like logos and anything where the copyright of the design is or might be owned by a person or company.

I would imagine editors and producers know where the lines are drawn and on the whole wouldn't use a logo inappropriately. Please correct me if I am wrong - if, for example a logo of a company is used in a work of fiction about child labour the film maker deserves to be sued, but if the same clip featuring the logo is used in a documentary about child labour, that's OK - provided the "facts" as presented are true.

I have wondered in the past where the boundaries are – after all, everything we see around us has either been designed by someone and made by a company, and/or is owned by someone. I expect that in some parts of the globe even the wildlife is deemed to be “owned” by the person who owns the land they are recorded on.

Not here (as I have only just uploaded the first four), but at review time sometimes my clips of the same bit of agricultural machinery are flagged as Editorial and sometimes they aren't. So I do find it difficult to know where the lines are.

Paul.

Editorial is still good. Almost all my stuff is editorial and it still sells. It is up to the user to use proper discretion. If you are shooting a great street scene and a Fedex truck goes by, I wouldn’t worry about it. I would like to hear from the curator though about shooting actual business logos on the street. Is that OK as long as it is for editorial use?

But how does this editorial use only work here. Is it enough to check this Box editorial or do I have to type into the description field ONLY for editorial use or does it depends all on the decision from the reviewer?

Thanks

Lars

Thanks

The curator will tag clips for editorial use, so there's nothing additional you need to do on your end when tagging.

We will accept clips with logos or non-released people in them, assuming the clips have news / documentary value. These clips will be tagged with the "editorial use only" disclaimer.

Thanks Tom, that helps stop the guessing on the video portion.

Now another question, if there is a marching band playing music or some incidental background music can "editorial" cover it also or does ASCAP / BMI have too much of a strangle hold on music copyright?
