Alpha Included

ODesigns 26 Nov 2008 17:44
I check that lonely little alpha matte checkbox on the right when I enter my meta data for a clip that has an alpha included in the clip, but for some reason, the "has alpha" in the clip's details is always "N".

Is this not working right, or am I doing it wrong?

For me it worked OK ('has alpha' is checked), e.g:

Not for me.

The "contains alpha matte" box is checked under the "Attachments" column, but when the clip is viewed, the "Includes Matte" says "N".

Take a look .....

This is flagged by the curator, and apparently it was missed -- we've gone ahead and marked all of your alpha clips now.

Please note that we prefer alpha channels embedded in the videos, using the Animation or PNG codecs.

Really? Embedded? Doesn't that make a huge file size?

Shedli (or somebody who uploads clips with embedded ALPHA),

Can you explain how to do this in AE7? I tried without success and file with embedded ALPHA was not accepted by P5 as valid file format. I used these settings in AE7:

- Composition => Add to render queue
- Output module: Lossless with Alpha
- Output module settings => Main options => Format: Quick Time Movie
- Video output: Format options: PNG, Channels: RGB+Alpha

Thanks,

Zygis I use AE6.5 to make alpha channel. When everything is setup the I want it I go to compostion make a movie,

Render settings: DV settings
Output module: Format QT
Video output: channels RGB + Alpha
Stretch: is up to you

If you're using a black background in the comp window turn it off before you render

Hi, Jason!

Thanks for quick reply.

Still can't figure what settings you use. My clips are in hd1080 format. I do not use any background in AE and do not use any streching. Original background color of my flower clips is blue and I used the Keylight (1.2) to get Alpha matte.

Can you write all options in 'Output module settings => Main Options' dialog:

- Based on ""????"
- Video output => Format Options'?

Shedli, If you prefer alpha channels embedded, then why does it say to include a matte file on the FAQs page?

What about clips with alpha channels?
For clips with an alpha (transparency) channel, you can create a matte and attach it to your clip as a separate file on the My Uploads page using the “attach” (paperclip) link next to each clip.

I would have embedded the file on my clips from the get go had I known this.

Hi, Scott!

With the advises and help from Jason I figured how and where to configure AE7.
I rendered 15s hd1080 file and with 90% or 99% quality file size is near 2GB. I'm sure this is not acceptable by P5.

Any advice what should be done to send clips with embedded Alpha?
