February Video Stats Posted

Hey everyone,

Just got February's Video Stats posted. February was a little disappointing for me (not with P5 - they still made the most income of course). How was your February?

In earnings, mine looks about like yours.
Pond5 was on top.
The others were half of what they were in January.

P5 is definitely the winner across the board as far as bottomline. All were down some from the end of 2008, still waiting for the spring turn around everywhere.

An interesting stat would be downsized sales when a full HD was submitted at the other places. I think this is why P5 is always a better bottomline, no downsizing ;) Far too many $3 too $10 payouts at the other places. P5 don't buckle under and follow the crowd, you've got it right now ;)

That would be interesting to see whos selling the most downsized versions, because they ALL get my HD versions...I will try and get that together for March. If I had to take a educated guess...it would be a site that non-exclusives make 20% commission on - for the site with most sales of downsized videos.

SS is terrible on selling web size. Probably about 1/4 is small sizes that should have been full size HD. For some reason some sites believe if they don't have a CHEAP downsize buyers will pass and not buy. This is nonsense. In the last couple months I've sold a dozen $200 clips at a site. They don't downsize and are the most expensive and still make sales. I still like P5 much better. It's a compromise between cost and quality. If I can sell almost as many $200 clips as $3.00 clips why sell the cheap ones???

Unfortunatly its just a matter of time. The same thing happend on the photography side now your lucky if you get 25 cents for a quality photo.

Pond 5 may have no choice down the line.

I don't necessarily think that P5 will be forced into downsizing videos. From what I have seen from my own sales, P5 is doing darn good against the agencies that sell the downsized videos, not only for number of sales, but income also. When P5 makes a sale, their getting 50% of a full size, full price video. Its taking the other agencies several sales in small web/big web videos to make up for what P5 makes in one. At least thats the way I see it anyway :).

I removed all downsized video clips in other stock agencies (where I can remove them) and can tell, that number of sales did not decrease in these agencies, but revenue increased - buyers are buying HD format clips now.

ANother thing to look as is the alexa.com (traffic) stats... last time I looked, all the other sites have a downward trend line, and Pond5 - it is upward..
and on another note... for those that get Videomaker magazine, look at April 2008 issue page 68 - disgusting! These idiots write the worst garbage ever and have no clue about the "real" stock footage industry. They seem to think that IS is where its at... and then they mention yet another site that isn't even ready for stock footage.. totally bogus!
