Sony Vegas 8.0 problem

Normstock 31 Mar 2009 18:39
In Sony Vegas I have used the crop pan tool to level a slanted horizon, then zoomed in a little to take the black pieces out of the frame because of the leveling.

This is the problem the file went from 232mb to 4.2 gb after rendering with my Pond 5 template.

So what am I doing wrong with the crop tool. After leveling and cropping the frame do you do something like in photoshop to flatten it or make the cut?

Thanks

Nah, save the file and restart Vegas... Vegas 8.x is buggy as hell. Also make sure you selected the region to render - I sometimes forget and it renders more than I wanted. Hopefully version 9 will be out soon.

Thanks, I have tried doing this clip three times on different days. Guess this clip was never meant to be part of the show.

Check that you don't have a Marker or a flag a long way down the timeline. Vegas will continue rendering off the end of the actual footage through to any markers that are still in position.

Agree with Vader's comment about Vegas being buggy. It's shite from a reliability, consistency and stability point of view. I regret buying it.

9 is out now (they're up to 9.0b already), and is available for download from the Sony site:

Anyone know whether Version 9 is classed as an upgrade to Version 8, or whether it's classed as a new product? Different way of asking the question - can I download 9 and expect the Version 8 key to work?

Paul.

^ Thanks, I didn't set any flags or markers and I always render to loop region and make sure the check box is marked, so only the loop region is rendered. I never knew that Vegas was buggy, maybe I'll have to buy Adobe Premiere Pro instead.

Hi Gitfinger - I think we are talking about Vegas Pro - not Movie Studio.. Pro 9.x is supposed to be coming out in April and be announced at NAB.. I plan to have a heart to heart with the Sony people about this garbage they are putting out.

I don't dispute that you guys are having trouble with Vegas 8 but I have had no problems with it and have found it stable and reliable. I guess it may come down to hardware issues. . . .maybe I got lucky and it agrees with everything on my system:-)

So many versions, so few bug report forms.

Hey Birkley - Begas was great on the old 32 bit systems - even on 32 bit Vista - but when I had my system literally blow up I was forced to go with 64 bit (can't find 32 bit anymore because Microsoft is ramming 64 down every one's throat.) In any case, Vegas 8.1 (64 bit version) is horrific.. I know what the problems are, but all you ever get from the Sony people is canned replies. So I have stopped being their beta tester. The 32 bit version on a 64 bit machine also crashes for no reason at random. I just hope the new version is at least somewhat clean. In the mean time I have had to go and learn Adobe Premier.. talk about different methodology. My brain is now fried, I have no more hair and .... well you get the picture. :)
