I finally got to play with the follow focus attachment I bought to use with the Canon.
Fits great and is very smooth.

And a small clip I shot using it.
The lens is a Tokina ATX pro 100mm f2.8 Nikon mount using a EOS to Nikon adaptor.

Very nice effect Jake........very professional feature. Are you shooting with this Canon 5D in preference to your Sony camcorder?

When we were on vacation last week, I guess I used each camera about 50% of the time.
For most landscapes and things I needed a lot of DOF I used the Sony, but for shallow DOF or if I was in a situation where I needed to be more steathly I used the Canon.

Here is a good point for using the Canon. When we were waiting in the airport I shot this using the Canon.

First, there is no way I could have used this with the Sony, the background would have been too in focus and second, to everyone else there, it looked like I was just taking a photo of Delores.

If the Canon was more user friendly with video, I may use it for everything because of the huge dynamic range it has over the Sony, but I'm getting used to it's non manual stuff so its really not that bad.

Thanks Jake,
Very nice indeed to know there is a way to follow focus. Very nice shot.
I think I will go for Canon 5DII too if I had the budget.
Or wait until they update their software for manual focus.
Interesting camera will come this year or next.

Jake these are great clips and especially at airports or shopping malls, it is very discreet.

I want to see what the Panasonic LUMIX GH1 final version will be, maybe I'm waiting for something that won't happen.

Jake, I might have missed it but what follow focus system did you buy for the 5D?

Hi,
The rail and sled assy I'm using was from a DOF adaptor I bought last year.
The follow focus and gears I bought from dvaccessory on Ebay.
Basicly, they sell the entire kit here.

Very good work Jake.

I would have held out for the Panasonic if it had full 1080 at 30fps.
I think there will be a battle of the video DSLR's in the next year.

Here is a $100 follow focus.
You still need the sled and rails though.
