Alpha Channel

I wanted to post some lower third animation and objects for compositing but to work well it would need alpha channel. I cant upload any clip with alpha. Would be time saver for the clients who purchase it.

We do accept clips with alpha channels, using the Animation codec. Please upload any lower thirds or other compositing elements with transparency using Animation. Also, for lower thirds, clips don't have to be full resolution (eg 720x480) - you can trim them to the size of the element (like 720x100).

Uploading a 1920x350 in Animation Codec with Alpha still scares me a little.

It shouldn't - just a bigger file than if it had no alpha channel. :) I have uploaded full 1920x1080 without problem. Just bigger and fatter files. :) But I use the PNG with RGBA settings instead of animation. Of course they are both progressive.

Being more specific the curator means Animation+, but you probably knew that anyway....

I try to upload clips with Animation+ but files are huge.
If file size of the clip with Animation+ codec is >500MB then I upload a RGB clip and alpha / luma clip as an attachment.

I upload using PNG format, it's lossless, supports Alpha and has MUCH better compression than Animation.

Yes - now you're talking... PNG is what I have said all along.. , Oh, and one more thing... Pond 5 is one of the very few, and I mean very few places that even accepts this format. Hence, if you do it this way, there is no need to attach a matte. The matte can instantly be created during post on most applications.

Now if the same clip were done using Animation with same settings it would a file size 2.3GB's. P5 has a clip limit of 1.0GB's the last time I looked. In order to reduce the file size you'd have to go down to about 80% and still wouldn't match PNG's file size at 100%.

??? I knew the ironman 2 guys were going to buy some clips from pond5, american flag clips that is.... I didn't realize they bought yours?

It doesnt have the country part around it but if you watch the ironman2 trailer that exact american flag clip is in it.
