How to find who and where your footage is being used

It would be great to be able to know who is buying your footage, and what it is being used for wouldn't it? If you have any information on how to track your footage, I would love to hear it! Since I have sold this clip 3 times, just curious what it is being used for. This was taken during a local fair handheld while working with a student, and thought I would put here for the heck of it....never thought it would sell!

It certainly would be interesting to have more information about buyers. Maybe company names etc would go too far and I can imagine Pond 5 won't like to share that info, but it would be interesting to know if the client is a broadcaster, a company, and the country they come from...

That question has been asked since the beginning of stock. None of the sites give us information like that.
And I doubt the customers would have time to fill in any questionare as to the type of project they are using the clip for.
I see mine on TV all the time or friends see me on TV and let me know. But that's after a lot of sales.

I have seen my stuff on TV commercials and History/Discovery channel documentaries. I have seen other artist stuff in big screen movies.

@mainstreammusic the audio in that clip is $$$

@ kk5hy: Not completely true. My photo's are on Alamy and there I get information of the nationality of the buyer, wether it's used in a magazine, the number of prints, a brochure or internet what size has been sold. Sometimes that's interesting, some photo's were sold to a German magazine for the frontpage with 750.000 prints.

You can search your clip thumbnail through google, second mouse button on thumbnail and click "search this image with google"

Yes, that is true, Shutterstock gives the spot in a world map where the video was sold.
But I thought the question was more to actually "who" bought the video.
That is something we won't know.

I think it would be nice if there was a "Purchased Items" search and a default global option that buyers could check in their profile that says something like:

"Allow Purchase Search"
and then parameters like:

"My Account Only"
"My Account and Seller"
"Any Pond5 Member"

The default could be overridden at time of purchase.

Then there would be a search tool where you could lookup purchases by date range, seller, buyer, price paid, content type, keywords etc and then sort the results by the various returned columns. Actually the existing search tool could probably be used with some small modifications?

I'm only a buyer (so far) but I would like this tool if for nothing else to shock myself at how much I've spent here over the last 6 or 7 years ;-) but also as a convenient way to find if I've already purchased something that might work for a new production etc.

Unfortunately for us all, I'm no one famous or particularly important so I'm probably not much good for "bragging rights" purposes but if you have some time to waste take a look through the 350 videos on my YouTube channel and you may see one to many of your video clips used. :-)
