Power Sellers - Question

myersmedia 28 Jul 2009 05:19
Hi everyone! I don't usually post here, too busy with other things but I was advised by one of the guys at pond5 to ask some of you "power sellers" for a few tips on how to step up to the next level on pond5 and start selling my clips on a more serious level. I'd like to do it full time if possible. My name is Nancy Myers and you can view my limited portfolio by entering myersmedia. I would sure appreciate ANY tips anyone was willing to offer!

Thanks so much!

Nancy

Hi Nancy,
I don't think I'm a power seller but I do very well, so can tell you what I see.
If you want to do this full time (which I'm not, yet.....). You'll need at least 2000-3000 very good concept videos with actors. Medical, business, family interacting etc.
Setup a studio with lighting and do a lot of indoor stuff so you can control the lighting. Outdoor only if its the best part of the day, early morning or late evening.
To get to the next level, you have to shoot what isn't easy to get. Everyone shoots what is easy, do something different to stand out.

Hi ya Nancy,
Find a niche, a place that most other shooters are not doing. Nature is easy, outdoors city, country and environmental shots are in a category that allows a lot of competition. People shots will always be the better sales possibilities for Business and industry. Even a small studio with lots of different actors will lead to best sales. So now the secret is out ... Jake time to move on ;)

Oh, did I let something out?
Forget everything I said. There is no way on earth to do this for a living.

Actually no way to even pay for snacks or drinks. I think picking up beer and soda cans along the road is more profitable. I quit ... how about you Jake? ;)

Me too, I'm selling my gear.
I just painted a sign to stand on the side of the road. "I'll work for food"
I'll just keep the BMW around the corner out of sight.

I wanna shoot people... but I think it's against the law.

Oh wait, it's a "photography" term, isn't it...? Nevermind.

I only want to shoot ex-wives. That isn't against the law in Texas.
