DJI Osmo

Anybody using the DJI Osmo? Sounds intriguing.

I'm using it quite often for corporate gigs. A lot easier to whip out and use real quick than throwing a full sized camera on a gimbal. It has its pros and cons - most notably that because of its light weight nature it has a lot of drift, whereas shooting with a cinema camera on a gimbal weighing like 30 lbs is going to be SUPER smooth, the Osmo has a bit of up and down drift just from how easily your arm moves with it.

Image wise shooting at 4K it looks fantastic in good light, but doesn't really give much in the way of depth of field. Everything is pretty well in focus all the time.

I'm a fan. Glad I bought it.

Thanks. Sounds like it could be useful in certain situations.

I love mine. Small sensor, needs good light but very easy to use.

A new version probably on the way, Osmo price dropped €100.

You think so Pat? They just released an additional axis for the current model. Will be interesting to keep an eye on it.

I don't have one at the moment, but it surely seems like a nice tool to use in some circumstances.

Stef,

The price really dropped 100€ (€), that sounds like a new model is coming out soon, in this year, may be.

Anyone have some clips online to look at? jcobalt?

I haven´t yet used for a real stock shoot, just some private events and one client. But I think on youtube you can find enough clips. It is a really small sensor, so you really need good light, yet not too extreme. Same like working with a mobile phone, or an older, small digital camera. But the stabilisation is great. You can walk around a room and get a great "i am in there feeling". Also good for video selfies, if you are into that.

People also react really well to it, turn the monitor, let them have fun. Battery lasts about an hour if you work it pretty continuosly, also drains the phone pretty fast. I have tried using it without the phone, but it just gets a little to wild. Controls are great, really easy to move the camera up or down or side to side while walking around.

Overall it is more a fun camera than a pro solution, but it can be adapted for stock, especially outdoors. it does attract quite a bit of attention, because it just looks so different.

ETA: I did upload some test shots. Pretty dull light and muddy ground but maybe enough to get an idea. I know I am supposed to price this at 500 dollars, hope you forgive me that it is so cheap ;)
