Better online edit data pages

So I decided to put some more clips online today. And to keyword some clips which weren't submitted yet (yes, I have a lot of uploaded but unsubmitted clips).
I was familiar with the interface, of course, but now I really saw that it's a horrible (no offence) user interface. It doesn't allow you to quickly tag clips and provide their information.
I found myself copying a lot of information, like keywords, and always checking the same boxes on multiple clips. I know there is a template option, but I find it too much work to make one for only 4 kind-of-the-same clips.

I don't know if you have ambition to make it a kick-ass interface, with drag & drop features (select multiple keywords from an overview interface, and drag them to another clip). Or some kind of a "next" button which allows you to continuously process clips after each other.

Just some thoughts...

Thanks Jip, this is definitely on our radar :) We actually have an update to the edit page that's about to go online now (for audio first, then video) which will be a big improvement.

Also, you can save time with templates by using the "dynamic template" option, which allows you to batch tag clips without having to create a template first.

I don't use the interface, I use the CSV option. It rocks!

You have to turn on experimental stuff to see View CSV and Apply CSV on the uploads page.

Copy the output from View CSV into a text file with the extension ".csv" then open the file with Excel or Open Office. Make your changes on the spreadsheet and then save it to your computer as a CSV. Use Apply CSV to upload the new spreadsheet to your online account.

Tip: Be sure to keep a backup of the original CSV before any changes, in case you want to quickly revert the new changes and go back to where you started.

I keep dated backup CSVs and can roll my account back in time to nearly any date.

I find P5 is one of the top two sites as far as keyword and description. I hope not much changes, I'm very happy now. Please definitely do not follow IS as an example, that is archaic and takes way toooooo long. Sometimes change is not the best ;)

I did see the csv option, but didn't find it interesting as I'm not using excel or any kind of database for my stock video, as I don't have that much clips.
But I think I'll start using it, I didn't know you had to import them from the site.

My CSV file is messed up. So when I put the text in a .txt file and import it into excel, it will display parts of descriptions of video's in the clip id column. What's going wrong is that he starts new lines on places where there is a new line in my description.
Hand editing the .txt file is too much work...
Any help?

It sounds like a comma or a quotation mark is missing. There are a few possibilities:

When copying the information from the View CSV page on Pond5, make sure you are copying from the very first character at the beginning of the data all the way up to the very last data character. The first and last characters are going to be quotation marks. Missing one of these can cause the file to fail.

Copy and paste the data into a text editor, such as Notepad. Save the file with an extension of CSV. For instance, name your file like this: myfootage.csv You should not name the file myfootage.txt or Excel may not read it correctly.

When you import into Excel, be sure that that the import is using delimiters. Excel needs to know that the quotations and commas are delimiters and that spaces are not delimiters.

Let me know if this helps. I can look at your CSV if you want to paste it into a message and send it to me. You can just paste the first few lines before and after where it is first displaying incorrectly.

Once you have a file that validates, the CSV really does work well and makes the job of managing the clips fast.

Okay, I now made a .csv file instead of a .txt, but I've still got the same problem;

What may be happening is that there are commas in the Description column. In a comma delimited file, the spreadsheet (and the Pond5 database) are assuming a comma means "go the the next column".

For instance see clipID 64650 (the last one in the spreadsheet picture). On the description from your page it says "With really great stereo sound, it's like you're in the middle of it." Notice the comma in this sentence.

But on your spreadsheet, see that "With really great stereo sound" is in one column and "it's like you're in the middle of it" is in the next column. This is because of the comma in the descrpition.

See clipID 53645. It has a description "Shot in the Zuidpoort, Delft". Notice the comma. Also notice the next clip, ID 54492 has the end of it's description in the clipID column.

Open the CSV file in excel. Edit the text in the Description column in the spreadsheet and delete all the commas. Save it as a CSV, close it and open it again in excel. Then see if your columns line up correctly.

Okay, so I'll have to edit everything manually.
I think that it's quite wrong, that a system like this can't handle comma's in a video's description. I understand why it does, but still...
