Assignments

One thing I have noticed about some footage (even some of mine) is that it can be too specific. While I'm sure some buyers are looking for "that one shot"...I know others are looking for something that will fit.

I'm wondering if footage that is more general in nature may do better. I have about 50 clips that I will be uploading along those lines shortly.

What do you guys think about developing some assignments? While it would mean that some of us would be shooting the same thing to some extent, it would give buyers lots of choices along the lines they are interested in.

More choice for buyers would make P5 more popular among the end users.

Well, based on that fact that you have something like 600% more clips online then I do... I am but a a novice at the feet of the master.

You may have a better idea what the market wants then I do...and collectively with the P5 folks I'm sure thats true.

But I can imagine it going something like this:

For the week (or month) of xyz the "assignment" is...

Infants or
wheels in motion or
destruction

...etc

Maybe it means any given artist only shoots one clip that fits the given topic. This boosts Pond5 in the eye of the buyer because he/she has more to choose from.

I like this idea, we used to do something similar in a painters group, then photographers joined in, then videographers then poets lol, it was a popular group, and some amazing stuff was produced..

it helped keep a focus - lots of good things about this..

we did ours each week but perhaps monthly is a good idea considering review times

I'll be dedicating most of next month to stock shooting, so I'm open for suggestions. Anything that's reasonably doable for all of us. So, while they DO sell, infants and tropical islands may be a bit far out there for most of us. ;-)

I just discovered this site yesterday and am intrigued with the idea of selling some of my footage. I like the idea of "an assignment" since I have no idea what might be of value. BTW, my infants are all grown up and I won't be going to any tropical islands until June, so I'm wondering what to shoot/upload in the meantime?

Hey P5 Guys ... how about have some of your big sponsors or partners offer prizes for a monthly theme clip. As curators review clips that fir the theme they can rate them and give prizes for 1,2 and 3rd place winners based on creativity, quality, marketability. I'm sure there are some deep pocket partners that would be happy. The top three clips can then be used by the partner. Just make sure the prizes are more than the normal selling prices ..... hummmmm what next...

Fields of Bluebonnets and Indian Paint Brush Wildflowers.
I'll have some other landscape and spring type clips next week from my trip that I'm leaving on Saturday.

Some others of me trying to act. Of course that's not spring, just me doing some stuff that I'm sure will embarrass my daughter when her friends see one of these clips. :-)
