Other Hi-Def

When keywording footage the only "close" choice for a true 1920x1080 p/i is "Other Hi-Def". It kinda makes it sound like those using full frame (or cropped) sensors shooting naively in full HD are a step child and not in the mainstream. In fact with the newer Cameras such as the Canon 5D MKII and 7D the video is superior in "most" cases to other HD capture formats. There are also other video cameras that capture in full 1920x1080 and not in HDV.
.
I feel that true full HD captured video needs a more clear choice that highlights the extra quality of the captured format. There also should be a way to automatically adjust the keyword fields on existing clips (based on camera make and model) to show that they also are true HD footage.
.
Just a thought that should help buyers see the difference in possible quality better.
.
This is not a stage to argue "quality of HD versus HDV. HD is just getting the short match on this one.

Don read this article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDV

Jason, I think he knows what HDV is :-).
I agree, I don't think 'other hi def' is appropriate. I think it should be HD.

Jason, this was a request to P5 not an argument or lesson on formats, codex, codes, packages or camera capabilities. There is a difference of HDV and HD. There is a check box for HDV so it needs to stay. "other hi def" is a step child type of list. It is a place to mark if nothing else fits. With the cameras and capabilities now it is not appropriate or indicative of the footage. It is not accurate to list 5D MKII or 7D footage as HDV, that is not accurate.

I mark my Mark II footage as other hi def, just seems like HDV is the standard and 'other' is something less... which is backwards :-)

I mark my footage as just "OTHER" and I enter a description "AVCHD 1080p".

Not sure how many buyers actually search by that criteria alone...

P5?

I mark as 'other', I think film is 'other', and stop motion with a canon rebel is 'other'.....so

I think there should be a category for DSLR HD

I know the technical definition of HDV is "defined" under those parameters. I think thats more semantics. If you think about it, everything we shoot it is all "High definition video" because video is electronic processing of images. So these high end cameras that call themselves HD as if they are outside of the video category is kind of funny to me. Really film is the only HD that is not video.

Its all just semantics.

:-) I guess it makes no difference anyway, since the buyer doesn't get to see this info anywhere, or?
Peak_Video 24 Feb 2010 21:48
Exactly, the buyer never gets to see any of this. Put your camera model in and they will see that.
