Port on youtube

Thinking of putting my port on the tube for promotion.
Is this wise (theft) or does the you tube quality make no difference.
Anyone else doing the same?

Resize the video and add a watermark, it should be fine.

There has been a lot of people getting discovered on Youtube but I would add to put a good size watermark if you're uploading the same thing as you're selling.

I have a demo reel on youtube but not really a port. Just for personal promotion and of my work, it has a link to my Pond5 account.

After recently dealing with allot of theft on youtube and getting really terrible service I'm going to look for other sites to host my promotional content in the future. Youtube seems to have a little too much freedom, no one is watching the content going online.

That's one reason I use Vimeo. They seem a little more professional.

Yeah I won't be supporting youtube, Vimeo will get any new promotional work I do. The people on Vimeo seem more professional too. It seems like it's mostly little kids on youtube these days.

The demo reel idea seems like the way to go. Probably, group a range of shortened sections of clips to give an overall idea of what I can do.

I just simply cannot understand this, "make everything free and the work will come", way of working. Many companies/websites seem to have started this way and are now thriving.
It sure is a risk.

On social networking ... Twitter has become nothing but automatic junk notes and messages generated from web sites. I really doubt that very many people use it like they did last year. I think they made a bad business decision to allow bots to do most of the twitting. So far facebook is better but many sites are starting to auto bot into it also. A year ago I would have said yes, now I think it's mostly a waste of time especially on Twitter.
I think a personal will actually get better exposure on YouTube than anywhere else. Vimeo is coming up but far behind the readership. Remember that anything that goes on YouTube in affect becomes public domain, don't think that it can be protected.

True Vimeo has far far less viewership than youtube, however those who do use Vimeo are more likely to be professionals in the field, whilst on youtube they're mostly kids, as Bryan has already suggested, posting stuff they've downloaded or 'stolen' from elsewhere. So from that point of view I think posting promos and showreels on Vimeo is more likely to get the tight exposure and get it seen by those you would want to see your work..
I for one love Vimeo and think they have a fantastic service and it's definately worth paying a few dollars for their Pro service, but then that's just my opinion..

And i completely agree with you Don, Twitter really sucks
