Panasonic GH1 just got RAW!!!

Some hacker jacked the bitrate from 17mbs to 100mbs in AVCHD.

Adjustable bitrate AVCHD!!!!

There will be presets for AVCHD, MJPEG bit-rate, frame-rate and resolution.!!!

The real kicker is he enabled 1080p mode for MJPEG with literally no compression.

The only limitations at this point are memory card speeds, Most cards can't handle 80 MB/s or more write speeds.

... haven't heard anything about this yet. That would be pretty click.

http://43rumors.com/now-you-can-adjust-the-avchd-bitrate-on-your-gh1-up-to-34mbit/ What If the Hack overheats the main processor....and reduces its life span.... If this comes from Tester13, I hear he does not owned a GH1. If the Hacks are for real, will the GH1 internal surface mount and heat dissipation components be able to handle the new software.

Apparently there are dozens of testers with GH1s.

It's been quite a hit and miss effort but they are making some huge strides lately.

From what I've read... heat is not an issue. Can't wait to see the 1080p MJPEG footage.

I hope that the Crack will be successful and I hope it will have a feature to control what Mbps you want. I do not think that my CPU can handle more than 50 Mbps. 1080 60p @ 35mps mjpeg is just fine with me. GH1 is still selling better than T2i in Pond5 from what I can see, but the T2i is fairly newer than the GH1.

Amazon post some quarterly sales data and the T2i is outselling all other DSLR cameras combined on their site.

Nice development, but as far as i know 100mbs isn't raw. According to my teachers at school HDCAM SR is 800mbs.
They told me HDCAM is +/- 110mbs so it will come close to hdcam footage, what is of course very nice.

Yes, not RAW in the classic definition. But as close to as can be had with a dSLR. Apparently the MJPEG files are massive... akin to shrinking a 4k Photo down to 1080p size. Somethig like 2-4 MB per frame.

dnavarrojr, I am taking about sales of video clips in Pond5. I am aware that people are buying more T2i's than GH1. I also agree that the T2i is a better choice. Hacking firmware is not a measure of how good is a camera. T2i clips in Pond5 look better than GH1 clips in my opinion. I am seeing people selling their GH1 to get a T2i. T2i's are always in backlog in BHPhoto. What I am referring to is that there are about 1.5k clips attributed to GH1s in P5 versus almost 1.0 k for T2i. T2i clips are not selling as well. Surely, soon the tables will turn with more sales and clips belonging to the T2i. If I compare GH1s against 7Ds and 5Ds, Canon is the undisputed champion. Using a hacked firmware on any camera is risky. First of all you loose the warranty. Second, you know you do not have a 100% tested debuged product. If something goes wrong, there's no one to help you. As they say: "If you are not a mechanic, don't fiddle around with your car."
