Let's not beat about the bush ... they only pay 20% to the artists. P5 at 50% is superb ... any rumors of 60% ;).... Yup I know, poor negotiating skills never results in a pay raise, guess that's why I don't or can't work for anyone else ;).
.
That's one of the things that P5 should scream in advertising, that they pay thier artists at least 20-30% more than any other frontline video agency. I think buyers would be happy to be here if they know the site is quality, the ease of buying is smooth, customer service is top notch and the artists are paid better than the competitors. It doesn't cost the buyer anymore to help support the ones capturing their footage.
.
Oh ya .... P5 meets or exceeds all of the listed needs of a buyer. It's just getting the word out stronger. Well done P5 ..... booooooo on 20-30% commissions.

Well guys, all I can say is start marketing! Let the world know that P5 exists. P5 by itself can not do this easily. But with our help it will surely accelerate the process. I have put several vids out to Youtube and Revver promoting P5 - I have them in my blogs, I talk to industry people whenever I get a chance about P5. We all need to help with the "heavy lifting".

lolz, just to be clear I was talking about corbis etc (those really old school stock agencies) :P
I wasn't refering to istockphoto,,,,
but anyway, I think stock agencies will have to be more competitive with each other because there are more artists in the general population. If a seller doesn't have a whole lot of time or hates jumping through hoops (like me) ... he will probably be more attracted to pond5 as opposed to istock ... even if they are (currently) making more money for the artist through volume.
And Scott, the red cameras are just really clear, they rival film cameras. Parts of the movie Jumper were shot with the red camera, and I read that peter jackson was going to use the red cameras to film (or record?) the halo movie.

I have a couple of clips on IS that are available here, too. Well, almost 1K to be exact. IS indeed generates more sales, but with P5 I do make more money from those shots. So, of course P5 is the number one place for me to be. Not just because they have the technically best site and the best, most friendly and creative crew, but also from a financial point.

I had a phone call along these lines today that emphasizes the need for Pond5 to keep pushing to get there name known among the production house community. A Japanese production company that runs an office in NYC called me about using one of my clips...but they were unsure about the price....because it would be impossible that a 12 sec clip would only cost $30.
I assured him that the prices are in fact what they say they are...He thought it was a gimmick or something. He couldn't believe he hadn't come across P5 before.

When I was in his office, I did see this trade magazine sitting in a few offices. Maybe P5 could buy some advertisement?
