Multiple Clip Sizes

Rather than uploading multiple sizes for your clips, I think it would be best to focus on creating new work; as soon as we implement clip resizing, all of your HD material will be automatically resized.

We are (still) working on this, and hope to have it ready very soon! :)

I noticed, that resized clips will be 'ready very soon', because in all clip pages there is this line written in a very small font:

save low res, watermarked preview: MOV FLV

What means (I think) that you ran HUGE job converting all 10000+ clips to few small formats, including this: MPEG-4, h264, 320x176, 15 fps, 277 kbps

Actually that's something different that we just added - it's a link for people to download the watermarked previews in order to be able to test them out in their compositions and see if they work before they buy the full-resolution, non-watermarked version.

So these are the same previews that you see in your browser; we've just added the link to download them more easily. But you're right, it's going to be a pretty massive job downconverting all the clips on the site to multiple formats... But hey, that's what computers are for. :)

Any word on when this is actually going to happen? I keep getting notes in my approval emails to only upload the highest res version. But until this conversion actually happens I'd like to keep uploading all the versions b/c people buy them. The HD versions don't sell that much yet, they are there for the future.

Also, will you be converting HD versions to NTSC D1 size clips? How will this work or will we still need to upload an HD version, an SD version and a PAL version?

For the moment, it's best not to upload multiple versions, because we're still sorting out the architecture and don't want to get swamped with many versions.

Once everything's in place, we will be automatically converting clips to HD1080, 720, and multimedia sizes. We will (probably) not be converting to NTSC / PAL, because of the different pixel aspect ratio. However, you will still be able to upload multiple versions, if you prefer to go that way.

And what about downsampling HD material for anamorphic wide screen SD? Should be easily possible and the market for widescreen SD is still big in Europe.

On the other hand, I seriously hope you're not planing to do frame rate conversions...

Oops... right, we probably won't be converting to 1080, at least not until even higher res (2k/4k) type stuff comes online. :)

We were considering doing anamorphic SD, but most likely we'll just do HD720, which can be easily edited into an anamorphic program. If there's a lot of demand, though, that may change.

And no, we won't be doing frame rate conversions - everything will stay in its native frame rate.

2k... well, I could do some of my photo time lapse in 2k and pretty soon in 4k as well. If there's a market for that I'd give it a try.

But I guess we'd have to talk about file size and compression again, if I were to do that...

Do you realize that a 4:3 clip shows as a 16:9 480i SD on a HDTV screen? They also look better than on SDTV.
