Vibrating picture

Does the camera have electronic stabilization? I don't think optical stabilization would behave like that with the lamp but I could see how electronic could possibly. What make and model of camcorder are you using?

I think it still does it with optical. I think as the screen moves it gives feedback to the gyro or whatever is controlling the lens and shifts it, or shifts the CCD's depending on the system. Might be wrong :-)

There is no gyro at all. How does it come that all camera manufacturers do not recommend using the stabilizer when camera is on a car or anything else but hand. I think they use some kind of piezoelectric with a statistical algorithm of hand shakes. A gyro stabilizer would make no difference between hand and car, would simply stabilize. Perhaps a gyro would be heavy and expensive.

They have a story on how the Electronic stabilization on a camera they were testing was fooled by a bouncing box to move the background and keep the box stable! Sounds a bit like the oil lamp problem but looking at that sample again it looks more to me like the black moving area is just the shadow from the flame.

Many have two different selectable stabilization options, one for handheld and one for vehicle shooting. On a tripod have both options off

My camera is Canon HG21. As I said, if I turned off the stabilizer, I get much worse problems becuase of the wind. I think I will try to shoot this scene not on a tripod but on a pillow of sand or beans. Then we see.

Image stab is not intended for wind correction. I shot some footage last week in high wind and had the same problem. Depending on what software you have, wind shake and even some handheld movement can be taken out. It's just an extra step. Good luck with the bean bags, sometimes that is the best way to shoot.
