Weather protection for FX1000

I was only using the UV filter to keep snow off the main lens. I also like to use a polorizer. The cool thing is the filters for my Nikon D300 lens fits my Sony FX1000.

I contacted B&H and they gave me a list of covers that will fit the FX1000. I like this one:

Now that looks better than the I one have and it fits around the tripod. Can you rotate the polarizer? Mine is in four pieces a 72mm adapter ring, holder, lens and hoods all are Cokin

The only way I can rotate the polorizer is by opening the lens hood/cap and using my finger on the edge of the filter. Not the best way but better than taking off the hood/cap. The G lens has a 72mm thread so I dont need adapters.

My 72mm polorizer is a cheapy. The glass is good but its not as thin as my pro filters I have on other camera lenses.

I can get in on and all nice and snug in less than a minute. I can remove it in less that 15 seconds.

You can use the LCD of the View finder but the LCD needs to be opened first if you plan on using it. The main attach point is on the cold shoe and is quite adjustable. Im not sure how useful the LCD will be in the rain though.

Tripod use is very easy. Notice the Lanc controller on the handle. I covered the controller with a Ziploc storage bag.

I have not yet figured out how to use a shotgun Mic as I will need to water proof it. The bag has a 6" long cold shoe on the top to mount all kinds of stuff.

Well now I just need some bad weather to try it out.

Hahaha. Tonight was crazy stormy here in Ohio. What if you don't have the Lanc controller, what is the method of control then?

If you dont have a lanc you have a couple of options.

1. Reach in through the bottom
2. Use IR Remote
3. Push button through plastic
4. Close the whole thing up and place a hamster in the bag and let him control the camera. :)
