OK, this is confusing. Above the curator states:
"For HDV shots, we are now accepting clips in the native HDV format. This will make the clips MUCH smaller in file size, and of a higher quality than transcoded clips."

As far as I know this is .m2t!!! So thios statement is incorrect as is.. as he later states:
"All files should be prepared as Quicktime .MOVs - NOT avi's or m2t's."

So which is it going to be?

I think you can pack the mpeg2 transport stream into a mov container if you´re on a MAC and use FCP. For a Win system I didn´t yet find any possibility to do this. I purchased the mpeg2 component for Quicktime but the only thing I got is the ability to open the m2t files directly in Streamclip and to convert them to mjpeg/mov. If there is a possiblity for us "poor" Win users to create mpeg2/mov without quality loss it´d be kind if you let us know. Thanks!

Yes, Stefgo is right -- at the moment, we only accept HDV codec clips that are in a Quicktime .MOV container, which afaik can only be generated by Final Cut on a Mac.

We're working on accepting non-Quicktime HDV containers, including .M2T -- we'll keep you updated on progress. I know it's been a long time coming, so sorry for the delay :)

Thanks for the info Tom! Would be great to see m2t (and other native HD formats) to be accepted. As I said, it´s easy to make the m2t-files work on a Mac. Just dld Quicktime and Streamclip and spend the 20 bucks on the mpeg2 playback component (or try with QT alternative but I couldn´t install it). At least Streamclip will open the files then and you can convert them to mjpeg/mov at even 100% if you want.

OK, now I understand a little bit better. This Microsoft/Apple war has to end. Microsoft needs to get more reliable and honest about their API's and Apple needs to get off their high horse. If these guys don't get together soon it will only make things worse and annoy more and more people in the process. Of course there is always Linux. :)

OK Shedli, what kind of problem with the introduction of m2T you have? Technical, financial or other? Do you have a timetable when it comes perhaps? Maybe one week ... one month ... one year? So I can plan. Many people have a PC and there is unfortunately no software to make hdv.MOV on PC. I've scanned everything on the internet, but found nothing. Who can offer software solution to convert m2t-Files to HDV MOV for PC? Or should I still buy a Mac? :-) I do not understand the problem, why it takes so long. I'm not programmer, but is it really so difficult to integrate a converter for m2t? Sorry for my impatience, but I have a lot of HDV clips that I would like to quickly upload and m2t is native original HDV Format and saves webspace and upload time. And time is money :-)

I also downloaded and installed the Quicktime Alternative from that site, so that I don't have compatibility problems when QT is updated.

Thanks Gitfinger, but i use this programm too and convert m2t to mov with streamclip ... my problem is the size of hd movs and upload time, not converting ... i need software, who convert my m2t into hdv mov with size of m2t original for pc platform! Not mov with m-jpeg codec! Georg

After reading this thread I uploaded some clips in native HDV format. It certainly saved a lot of upload time but they showed up in my portfolio as 1440x1080i instead of the 1920x1080i that they were uploaded as. What has happened? Is this a saleable format or would it be better to continue using MotionJPEG?

If you check the anamorphic box the clips should stretch to the 16x9 ratio. I think Pixel res from the camera must be similar to the HVX. It shoots stuff squished up (with rectangular pixels) , and stretches to the image to the correct ratio (making the pixels square) to 1280x720
