Minimum Pricing for 4k

I agree the sort by price is a bad thing for artists. It's too easy to be $1 over or under and be sorted out. Not sure if it is needed by buyers more than the damage to artists.

The NAB discussion that Andy started; this is why we need more activity in the forum by P5 Team. It looks like all the active P5 artists are asking for higher minimums on both HD and 4K but no response.

Agreed.

it is against the law (in the USA and canada for example) for a group of businesses to demand that prices be raised by other business owners in a marketplace. it is known as 'price fixing'.

from wikipedia:

"Price fixing is an agreement between participants on the same side in a market to buy or sell a product, service, or commodity only at a fixed price, or maintain the market conditions such that the price is maintained at a given level..."

"The intent of price fixing may be to push the price of a product as high as possible..."

"In the United States, price fixing can be prosecuted as a criminal federal offense under section 1 of the Sherman Antitrust Act."

Sorry Tiberio, I Disagree... P5 is a marketplaces and they can dictate minimums. If you are referring to 'the group of businessman' being us going to NAB and telling them to change 4k minimum then maybe that is illegal. I'm calling the Vegas police on Don. I'll take videos of him being arrested and post them for sale, at the new minimum that will be set.

I'm surprised shutterstock and Istock aren't shut down with all their price fixing.

We all are aware of what price fixing is David but this isn't what the discussion is about. It's about setting minimum price for HD and 4K footage instead of $10 dollar minimum at which you sell your clips.

On the other hand, some artists are selling at a dumping price to hurt the market and other competitors (us). The police should arrest them, not us. :D

They are selling at that point to make a quick buck and don't realize their own value of clips...

We need a union

you agree with me, you just think you disagree with me. yes, I was refering to sellers colluding together to try and fix pricing.

it is ethically wrong for sellers to dictate what other sellers should sell their products and services for.

my honest opinion is that I fully support sellers pricing their videos as high as possible. in fact, I think you guys should all raise your prices right now. I have always supported other sellers who wish to raise their prices. I recommend you all sell each clip for a minimum of $100.

thanks

You saying that makes me almost legally obligated to turn you in for falsely accusing me of something.

Pond5 only sets minimums and allows the artist to set the price. This is what attracted me tho this site. IMO contributors should not be telling anyone where to set their prices. If you want a change then Pond5 will have to do it. I think the reference to "price fixing" is a valid point worthy of discussion since some could argue that a form of collusion is involved.
