@jdennis, I put a lavalier on each of them - just kidding :)
Most of my ambient audio is recorded with a pair of Sennheiser ME-67 shotgun mics. They are quite good recording audio when using hugh focal lengths as they have a narrow field for fetching the sound.
This bear shots is taken in the wild at the border between Finland and Russia. At this place you sit in some small hides and the bears are walking all over the place. One night we had 12 bears surrounding us during the night. Quite scary as they was fighting on just one carcass and they was very hungry I can tell you!
This clip was shot in about 30 meters distance (100 feet), but I got clips where bear was passing in just 4-5 meters (15 feet).
