Sony FDR AX100 UHD 4K

I couldn't import the files from the z100 into my premiere pro cs6... had to use CC.

You got it to work Don?
RekindlePhoto 8 May 2014 20:34
Yup. I just opened PP CS6 as if doing HD. When dropping the 4K clip onto the timeline it says it's a different sequence and asks if you want to change it. Say yes. Then when exporting, setup a custom format by manually setting the pixel size, progressive, quality, fps and save it. From there export just like normal. Never had any trouble using Premiere Pro CS 6 with the Z-100 or AX-100 files.

I was ready to buy CC but I just don't see the value since CS6 works just fine still.

I need to go try this again, for some reason I remember it not working for me and that's why I had to install CC

Scott ... I just changed computers so I know the AX-100 4K works with CS6 no problem. Since I don't have the Z-100 anymore I have to stop and think ... I downloaded CC trial about the time I got the Z-100 so maybe for it I used CC. Dang just don't remember on Z-100 what I used now. Since AX-100 4K files works fine I would guess GH4 files might work on CS. Guess it's time to test again.

Scott, the key thing Don is saying is that when you add the 4k clip to the timeline in Premier 6, it will ask if you want to change the sequence, after that your up and running. Don't worry about the initial project setup, it will be adjusted. Exporting is easy if you have QuickTime installed as it's very configurable.

I'm having trouble even getting the clip into CS6... get an error it isn't supported format. I've read a lot about it and it seems some people have this issue and others don't. They recommend reinstalling CS6, that is supposed to help.

Scott, having slept on this, the only variable I can think of is that having installed Premiere, I add K-lite Codecs Pack and Quicktime onto my system.

k-lite is probably it... I just dont like installing codec packs. It's weird because I had CC on there for the trial and it worked fine... but now it's gone :-). Either way, I don't have any footage to edit, just was curious about Don saying it worked. If I ever get a camera that needs it then I'll figure it out

I just tried tp export 4K from PPro6, as RekindlePhoto described above, and it works! Now I find out!
By the way, you can see what software you used to edit your uploaded clip by clicking on the "Technical Information" tab under any clip (although those tabs don't appear when I'm using Safari). Along with Mac Atom, File Inode, Pantry, and numerous other cryptic details, you can see the edit software in either Project Path or History, as well as the "name" your computer has, not that it's anyone's business. but...

SO far love the camera. Can't find anything wrong so far. Great sharp clips and downsizes to HD incredible quality. Biggest concern is it seems to over expose and need to make the preview screen a little darker than what you want. Battery use is long, never had to use my backup battery. When downsizing to HD I've read reports that it is equivalent to 4:2:2.
