Politics and Sports - could be big sellers!

Dear Pond5 Artists,

As part of our effort to make Pond5 the premier online marketplace for stock footage, we are looking for in-demand, newsworthy footage of two of the big stories of the summer. The US Presidential race, and the Beijing Olympic Games. We're certain there will be high demand for clips covering all aspects of these stories. We're asking you to be on the look out for opportunities to shoot footage of them, and to reach out to videographers and videojournalists who might not be on Pond5 yet.

For the Olympics, everything from generic B-roll of Beijing and China, to local fund-raising events, to send-off's of local athletes as they leave for Beijing, to people gathering in public places to watch their hometown athletes on tv.

For the Presidential Race, footage of the candidates is obviously a high priority. Speeches, campaign appearances, shaking hands, meeting supporters, anything. But also endorsement speeches by supporters, rallies, volunteers, activists, signs, banners, fund-raisers, whatever you can think of.

Be creative, and get the word out!

So by this, model releases of candidates, campaign people, speakers, supporters, people holding signs and banners etc are not needed and are fair game as editorial? Sounds good.

That's correct. The Presidential race and the Beijing Olympics are both newsworthy stories that will create plenty of demand for 'editorial use only' clips. Releases are not required.

Besides that, if it is a candidate, we own them outright and the release is a given! They work for us. They will do what we the people tell them to do and get done. That is democracy at its finest! Ok, maybe not. :)

You are mistaken, the US was not setup for the people to govern. It was setup for the people to vote then get out of the way and let the elected govern. It truly was setup for the influential and wealthy to govern. People here really need to study history to see that the founding fathers did not trust the public as a whole, also they did not trust a single person such as a king. When the people demand to know what the government is doing it in fact is not in-line with what the government was setup to do. Remember the thing called the electoral college? The people vote and then the college decides who is to be president and it does not have to be what the people said. We are a republic not a democracy. So we don't own them but we can sure film and criticize them all we want ;)

In the words of George Carlin, this country was founded on the principle of getting out from under being peasants of kings (a.k.a. slaves) so that the "new rich" could own slaves. It took a civil war to try to change that... but then that is an oxymoron, "Civil War". Excuse sir. Bang! sorry for killing you like that. I beg your pardon. Bang! Oh so sorry. Perhaps the next civil war will be cameras vs. the liars, ah, I mean the politicians.

I am aware of the fact that our country was based loosely on the Roman Republic with the roman Senate etc,, but I still say Democracy even though it isn't accurate. Bush says we are "spreading Democracy" he doesn't say we are spreading "the ideals of the republic" .... I don't know, I always just thought of it as a label, but I guess it just adds to confusion about government systems.

You see what you did klipper,,,, you just started something.

BTW Klipper, I never did thank you for that time you saved my life in Guatemala, its a good thing you knew how to use a rocket launcher.
