How to list Multiple Formats

For those who mainly upload in one format only this is no big deal but for those of us who are trying to maximise exposure of multiple formats it matters a lot..
I have a lot of clips up at the moment with many more to come but I will make part of my workload the grouping of clips as so gently requested. If I start getting a lot more sales I shall know my fears were groundless but for now can only agree with postquis_design

I agree with postquis_design as well. Having the HD labeled thumbnail display when seaching for PAL or NTSC is confusing. The "parent" clip would be better as a generic "Available in multiple formats" with no price. IMHO ;-)

Thanks to all for your time and valuable advice. Interesting how many different approaches and potential benefits/setbacks each incurs. I guess the old saying that there is no "magic bullet" is probably true in this case as well.

Kennon, are you saying your server links the files together if they are described with the correct naming convention? Is this something I can do or do you still need to do it? If so, could you give a more concrete example of the naming conventions you described in your earlier post and how to post them? Could you clarify this process? I always name my files like this:
farmer_HD.mov, farmer_DV.mov, farmer_ PAL.mov, farmer_WEB.mov

That's an excellent point. I'm not sure if this is something included in our list of changes to make, but I'll pass it along and see what we can do about both the thumbnail and the search result notation.

We prefer clips to be grouped this way, since we have a system in place that can instantly group them, instead of taking care of it file by file. The trick with the naming convention is:
a) you need to be consistent - so it doesn't matter what the suffix for the filename is, it just needs to be the same across the board, so _HD, _DV, _PAL etc would be fine, as would -a, -b, -c, or any other string of characters, but HD files should always have the same suffix, and so on.
b) you need to have unique filenames. so, if you have a file named "farmer" and you add the naming convention, you can't have another file named "farmer" uploaded, even if it's not a clip with multiple formats, since that will freak out our associations, before you start adding the suffixes or even upload files, make sure that if you have 10 files with the same name, you make them unique - if you have a mac, you can do this quite easily using automator, you can even just add a sequential number (so farmer01, farmer02, farmer03, etc), as long as there aren't files with the same name.
c) Once you've named and uploaded your files, send us an email with the naming convention you've used and we can group them automatically. Even after files are grouped, you'll still need to send them to the curator for approval, since if the files are offline they won't show up as associated.
