Well another forest fire just started a few miles west of us. We live in the valley at 6,000 feet elevation and the mountain starts up 1 1/2 miles west of us up to 11,000 feet. Thick aspen and pine forest full of deer, elk, bear, cougars and wildlife. This one started in Maple Canyon a world famous rock climbing destination. It's fairly small now but the wind is blowing and everything is so dry. Currently there are still 9 fires burning in Utah and four are still completely out of control. Problem is the main fire season hasn't even started yet, August will be a very bad month I'm sure.

Here are a few of the smoke jumper and aircraft supply aircraft that arrived to fight this new fire.

Yesterday we got the first rain in several months. It was right on the fire burn scar. Across the back of our field there was a yucky black river of fire soot, burned logs, mud and water over 40 feet wide and 2-3 feet deep. Washed out about two acresof my field.

Sad part was our good friends south of our home was in the direct path of this torrent. Their entire basement and the main floor was filled within seconds. Since this is not a flood plain they had no flood insurance and the insurance company is refusing to help. A new home about 7 years old totally destroyed. Sorry no photos or video, I just could bring myself to pull out a camera with their loss.
