Thoughts on Free Promotions

I have a few of my songs set as free promotions, and have had a lot of cart adds, but it hasn't translated into a lot of sales or anything. What's peoples thoughts on giving away some free promotions. I was just curious. Thanks.

Has never worked for me at any agency. I've tried it but results in nothing.
I think a better way is a mix of four clips per week at a total of $20 ($5 each). This gives a vested input by the buyer looking for a deal and results in actually great weekly sales. A win-win for buyer and artist as well as P5. At one agency a good clip of mine was downloaded free over 1,400 times. Made no sales of any kind for the next month on any clip. Free is free and is my opinion a desperate grab at marketing. A great eye popping discount will work better at grabbing attention and building loyalty. Just my opinion after trying it many times and a fact that it has done nothing as an individual artist. I'm sure others may feel different.

I think your right Rekindle one of my songs on this site was downloaded 488, with no sales in return as of yet. I maybe not taking the time to see but my feeling is that is 488 lost sales. I think your strategy of a handful of very discounted songs might be better. I know at 5$ my profits would be peanuts, but its better then nothing and might have the same result.
