PAL or NTSC

Hi all,

I am wondering, if it makes sence to upload clips created in PAL. The most clips which are sold are in NTSC.

Or is it just to early to think about this, because everyhink is still in beta?

I've been converting all my animations to PAL lately so that I can have both available. Why not upload in PAL-- there are more countries that use that standard than the NTSC one. It really could only help you b/c you have more options available for the buyer.

The best thing to do is to upload your clips in their native format. So if you're filming in PAL, stick with PAL.

For camera shot clips, you should avoid doing format conversions (like PAL -> NTSC). For motion graphics, it's a different story - you can render your work out to various format without quality loss, so it can make sense to supply multiple versions.

However, we will be doing automated conversion of clip formats in the near future, which will make things a lot simpler. So concentrate on making great material; we'll worry about the conversions :)

Is there a time frame on when this automatic conversion will begin taking place? I have about 75% of my animations encoded in PAL format ready to upload but if this is going to be soon, I'll wait. Just don't want to miss out on sales ya know!

As far as the time frame for conversions... hard to say, but we're hoping to have it ready within the next couple of weeks. We'll keep you updated.

In the meantime, feel free to upload multiple versions of mograph stuff (not camera-shot material, though). If you're going to upload just one, make it the highest-res possible (ideally HD1080).

The PAL market is very much larger than the NTSC market, so I suppose those of you who only have NTSC maybe loosing a few sales.

It doesn't appear that way on the search. When I first started uploading here in April of this year, I was told to only send one version of my videos, after I had already uploaded HD and NTSC versions. So now I just upload my animation HD videos. Of course, now when I do a search , I see people with multiple versions like I was asked NOT to do. So who knows what's going on??
