Selling Images

The Pond5 "partners" of 123rf, Dreamstime and whomever else they import photos from are not going to make it easy for Pond5 to lure their submitters away. To prevent it, they're going to lowball prices on images they sell through Pond5 to keep prices artificially low. Pond5 is going to import millions of images so that every category is pre-filled making it harder for direct contributors to even be found in the searches... And if you do price your images higher, you'll have to hope it's unique enough to be actually purchased.

I'm glad to see Pond5 in the game, but I have no hopes that it will actually be the game changer it SHOULD have been had they negotiated with a few large contributors and let them set their own prices.

By the time you and I get to upload our photos to Pond5, the game will pretty much be over and the other agencies will still have all the control.

Hey Kennon,

Let me also suggest this... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE allow submitting PNG and PSD files for images. That is one niche where your major competitors haven't gone and there is a demand from video producers (your core audience) for isolated objects with alpha for video. I actually sell more textures and isolated PNG objects on a couple sites that accept them than I do all of my traditional JPG images.

I truly believe that all of us "old time loyal P5 artists" would be very very happy to be guinea pigs to help support and grow P5 as well as help stabilize subject matter and pricing. 123rf is not one person, they are a group of individuals like P5 artists who now have priority over loyal P5 artists. Helping to spread the prices now is far better for everyone than after 5 million 123rf photos. Make me a guinea pig.

Bump...What's the current status on letting current P5 contributors start uploading photos?

I only have 50,000 images waiting in the wings...and I guarantee nobody's got the photos I do.

This is me:

We're still working on the backend infrastructure for this -- we'll make an announcement as soon as it's ready but it may take a little longer than originally expected. So don't hold your breath (or your bladder) :)

Holtocw,

Not bad. I got about 100,000 that nobody else has either. I wonder if the resolution of the image will make the difference for setting high prices. For instance is there a need for images (fractals in my case) that saved at 20,480 x 15,360?

So is there an actual projected timeframe as to when uploading and selling photos will be opened up to existing pond5 content providers? days, weeks, months???
