1 Gb/s Internet

Just went up from 250 Mbs to 1Gbs. When using FTP to P5 the upload speed is only marginal if that. With FTP at 1Gbs it's actually much slower. When using the web based upload it is only about 10 seconds faster.

Appears to be a throttle on the P5 server that slows upload speed. Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a setting I need to make on my side to take adjantage of the HUGE increase of upload speed?

Thanks for any help.

I have just 19 mb upload speeds on my internet but it still takes an hour to upload 7.5gb of video so just over 2mb per second from 19 mb upload, plenty more available but yes i think limited

Yep - I have supposed to be 1gb internet service. SpeedTest indicates around 900 mb download and 37 mb upload speeds.
Many internet providers have upload speeds way less than their advertised speeds which are for download.

When I FTP footage to P5 my ftp client shows about 4.5 mb maximum. I've wondered if it was P5 servers or my internet provider which are notorious for meddling with service.

Speedtest shows me now at 946 Mbps Download and 870 Mbps Upload. So the speeds test very good.

Just not much increase in actual time to upload to P5. A little better at SS but not anywhere close to what it should if there is no throttle. So actual speed increase of uploading between 250 Mbps and 870 Mbps is marginal.

I'm guessing P5 has their FTP servers throttled back due to the likely large number of FTP upload/download sessions they probably have running at any given time to balance their bandwidth. But what do I know - only a WAG.

I’m on a 1 Gbps plan too, but SpeedTest usually shows around 900 Mbps download and only about 37 Mbps upload. Most ISPs advertise the download speed, while the upload speed tends to be much lower in practice.

Fiber internet is becoming more commonplace for home use. Fiber is usually "symmetrical" speeds - same upload and download speeds.
