Adjusting brightness - riding the levels in PP

I am using Premiere Pro and I have a video clip that starts to get brighter (auto exposure in camera) a few seconds into the clip. I know how to make video effect adjustments for the clip as a whole but is it possible to fade in and out the brightness level to match the area that needs it rather than the whole clip ? I can't find any way of doing this.

I can't re-shoot as it was a one off thing. So can I do it or not ?

You can use keyframes.

add the brightness/contrast effect to your clip. Then click the little clock/keyframe to the points you want certain brightnesses. It will transition from one to the other as you set the keyframes. Try it out :-)
