What to charge?

I got a guy who wants me to record and edit interviews he is doing for several of his web sites. What is the going rate for this kind of work.

Its kind of new for me so I will be learning as well. I don't want to overcharge him as Its probably going to get me a lot of exposure.

FYI. I got this cause he saw some of my wedding stuff on Vimeo.

With pinky finger inverted against mouth corner - "One million dollars!" - :) But in all seriousness - I would talk to some people in the area that do this type of work and get an idea or even a quote. Rates can vary dramatically depending on where you are. It might depend on if it is a running shoot or in studio (stationary) - how much sound equipment, camera equipment etc you need to provide for recording etc... Is he interviewing others or just recording himself? - How much editing - do you need to generate additional goodies etc.. Don't count on "I don't want to overcharge him as Its probably going to get me a lot of exposure." - Act as if you already have enough exposure, otherwise you will get taken advantage of. And is it really the type of exposure you want? Many things to think about.

I'd charge about $125-150 per video recording and editing. (the videos will prob 3-5 minutes long). There is a company here locally that wanted me to do stuff and that is what they offered me.

There is a company that pays videographer $300 to capture and process a 30 second ad for businesses. This takes less than 1 hour on site then the edit time. Nothing less would be acceptable. Remember the longer the interview and final project the more processing time it takes.

$125 an hour $1,000 a day............with a minimum of two hours and travel expenses. This would be on the low side.

Where do you guys recommend advertising to offer such a service?? I know examples of previous work is very important, but if you have a good demo reel, what is the next step? You think cold calling companies?
