Newbie hello and question

Hello,
My name is Don B and I just joined the pond. I am new to the video stock scene but have a long track record in the stock image world.
Just wanted to say hi, no uploaded clips yet.

I do have a question (don't all us new guys) on the sales/download part on the clip info. When it shows how many times a clip has been downloaded, I assume that is how many sales. Is that correct and is that total downloads or just the current month?

Seems like if it is for the current month then that would be a good sign, if it is for all time sales it would seem like rather low clips sold per month for the number of uploads.

Overall, I really like this site. Seems to have a good vibe and there is a lot of great content.

Regards, Don B

The download and sales are the same and are grand total. The big difference here compared to other agencies is Pond5 is so much more buyer and seller friendly. We as artists set our prices and we earn a full 50%. So although some agencies may sell a few more clips the bottomline to the seller is significantly reduced. Most other agencies are more centered on making the agency money, here it is a true partnership in wealth sharing; Pond5 has the store expenses and we have the camera and time expenses, a good partnership. Bottomline P5 beats every other stock video agency for ease of use, statistics and bottomline. Yuo Bottomline ;)

Welcome DonB, do a search through the forums, you will find lots of information, after all we all were new here too. Don't undercut you prices too low, be fair and the buyers will respect you.

I think Pond5 is the best mid to low range demographic stock site in existence. Which includes istock or shutterstock, I don't waste my time with those particular sites.

Thanks for the input guys. I am just testing the waters here so I will see how it goes. As I said before I really like this site, the set up and you contributors.

Would it be prying too much to ask if anyone is, how do I ask tactfully, humm ....

How about this: Are many of you doing this and pulling in more than say a little extra dinner money each month? I guess what am wondering is this just a little side line for most of you or are there some full timers in the mix?

I ask because some contributors have many hundreds of clips which seems like a bit more than a gig on the side. I don't know if I will have those numbers for a long time, most of my work is 3D and AfterEffects style composites which take longer to produce.

By the way, these forums have been very helpful so far.

Thanks again, Don B

Don't worry about quantity. Quality is more important. In regards to your "burning" question: Yes, more than extra dinner money. :)

Based on what's on your website - I don't think you'll have a problem with the quality. :) Nice imagery!

Welcome aboard.
