This still sounds like an "unofficial" or bogus e-mail. The FAA or any government agency will not send an official notice of compliance or threat in an e-mail to an individual. Especially with him being only one in hundreds of thousands that fly remote control aircraft or quads and post to Facebook. Makes good story but nothing more than that .... yet.

I don't think this is fake at all Don. There are several articles about this all over. It was not just an email: http://photographyisnotacrime.com/blog/2015/03/faa-backpedals-after-sending-letter-ordering-man-to-remove-drone-footage-from-youtube/

Don't think the FAA sent Jayson Hanes a cease and desist letter because of a very few ads attached to his videos. Those ads on YouTube may have prompted someone to complain to the FAA about him using those ads to gain profit from his videos. But if you take the time to look at his videos you see why the FAA really sent him a cease and desist letter. In a great number of his clips he is above the 400' height and flying beyond LOS (line of sight) even though those rules are not written in stone as of yet by the FAA or Congress. Maybe the FAA should be reminded of our 1st Amendment rights it's call freedom of expression.

There are many others like Jayson Hanes who have posted videos similar to his who will become targets for FAA cease and desist letters once those rules and limitations are passed.
