Are Vertical Framed Shots Worth It

I was wondering if anyone had comments on, is it worth adding vertical format shots to your portfolio.

Are buyers needing or wanting them, I have seen the animations on the download page, or is it a future thing?

I tried creating a few. But no luck selling. I also haven't heard about anyone selling any here or elsewhere.

I guess if someone wanted a clip vertical, they would resize a horizontal in AE and be done with it.

I've seen some sell in the Artist Resources. All pre-keyed footage of people. (Sport/Action stuff.)

Yes those were the ones I was referring to with the black backgrounds. I'm wondering if it will become like the photo side of the business where vertical framed photos outsell horizontal.

I have been seeing more bank ATM's running clips with words around the image and thought this market might buy the vertical clips because of the page layout.

I do some vertical shots of growing plants time-lapse. Many flowers look more natural in vertical composition. You can't make such vertical clips just resizing in AE from horizontal clip. You must use the original still images and crop from there.

I don't know about portrait format as they would be multimedia as most of those keyed clips are noted to be. I think one of the misconceptions we run into is we forget just how large a nice full sized HD TV really is and that even in landscape mode a so called "vertical" or portrait shot still is pretty darn clean and large. Of course seeing our shots in these small previews can really mess with our heads. :)

Wouldn't it be better to leave the resolution at HD and just have the footage sideways?

I would think they would be used primarily for on screen monitors that are used in sets. But they just turn HD monitors sideways, so why output the keyed image to 1080x1920 instead of 1920x1080?

I mean I would think they shoot the stuff with the camera on its side to keep the highest resolution.
