Get Rid of Flash

Jonathan,

I was fortunate to be at Kauffman Stadium last night when the Kansas City Royals won the ALCS and advanced to the World Series (I will be covering the World Series too, but Pond5 won't accept the footage).

During the rain delay, I wandered over to the Fox Sports trailer and chatted with the broadcast crew. I saw they had a few laptops sitting with Shutterstock, iStock and Fotolia open in browsers so they could purchase assets during the game. I asked if they had heard of Pond5 and they said yes, but they aren't allowed to have Flash on the laptops for security reasons and Pond5 doesn't work without Flash.

I also do not have Flash installed on my laptop for both security reasons and performance issues.

PLEASE relay to the dev crew that the site needs to be upgraded to HTML5 for video with popups and previews. I know that HTML5 is working on iPads, but it needs to work on PC's as well.

and tablets, and smart phones both Apple and Android, IOS and Windows XP to 10.

Is this a possible reason SS is increasing in sales and P5 .... well all we can see is fluff on the sellers side and maybe no upgrades on buyers side. I'm sure there are buyer upgrades too ... I'm sure there is.

This should be the first thing to do now.

Of course, it is just few people talking, but I think, P5 could investigate this direction more deeply (i.e. to get rid of 'unconventional' upgrades).

It's official! Gray Television, the 7th largest owner of TV stations in the United States has banned Flash from all computers. Our IT people uninstalled it yesterday. Which means, we can no longer easily browse footage on Pond5.

This edict came as a result of a recommendation from CBS (most of Gray's stations are CBS affiliates) which is also removing Flash from all of their computers.

Were you able to pass this request along, Jonathan?

Adobe officially announced the end of Flash. They have already stopped updating it and will only continue with security updates for another year before they stop distributing it altogether.

Pond5 needs to get onto HTML5 for the popups right now. I know you don't want to mess with the current code if you don't have too, but trust me, you have to.
