the reason the IS isn't available seems to look like it's just digital stabilizer. From what I've seen in some demo videos it doesn't look that spectacular.

Sounds like not much of a benefit to upgrade if you own the 4, or?

Only big improvement is the touch screen and water proof to 30 feet without the extra case. If you get stuck in the rain or want to go swimming the 5 would be better. The voice controls are probably more of a gimmick.
Wish they had linear option in 4K.

So I think if you have a 4 it may not be a great upgrade. I still see the 4 Black selling for more than the 5 Black in stores. Get ready for a big price drop to get rid of old stock.

no, it wasn't. The gopro5 is only $399, and it was a 20% off coupon code. I think they sold out fairly quick.

yup, got it the first day.

After a couple weeks of using the 5 Black. Not impressed with photo quality. Of course video is ok for what it is intended, action shots where a good camera could be damaged or destroyed.

The photos when viewed at 100% have a huge amount of fuzzy artifacts along edges. No way to improve or fix in post processing.

Videos are somewhat grainy with noise. Bit rate is low so many action shots that have items close will blur. With the focus set at infinity remember that is what they want you to shoot at. Infinity slower moving subjects.

From what I can find the sensor is the same as in the Apple 7 iphone.

So my recommendation use a phone as a phone, a GoPro for action only type shooting. Get a good camera for 99% of your photos and footage. Don't think that the GoPro will meet any quality requirements for quality.

I got my 5 for free at bestbuy with the protection plan. I had my 4 damaged but waited till this one came out to swap so...free.
I like the waterproofness without case and the camera bluetooth is always on but doesnt really drain the battery. you just turn on the iphone app and it finds the camera and turns it on. previous versions with bluetooth turned on would die within 2 hours. the video and photo quality is the same as with the 4, cant notice any difference.
the touch screen is nice but now you have to worry about not scratching the front or back.
battery life is much better and the voice command is useful to turn off and start recording hands free. I think it's worth the upgrade
