Are images from a pocket camera accepted - 12 megapixel?

I never submitted pictures smaller than 16 or 20 megapixel. Am thinking of buying a pocket camera (with interchangeable lenses).

Does anyone has any experiences submitting pictures using smaller cameras (assuming that picture quality, composition, exposure etc are well thought out? )

I have no personal experience with submitting photos to Pond5. However, I am a freelance writer and former magazine editor, and can tell you that 12 megapixels is plenty good enough for a publishable photo. Most magazines require photos to have 300 dots per inch (dpi) resolution, with enough pixels to make a photo at least three inches (about one column) wide. That means a photo that's 900 pixels wide will make a three-inch wide image when published in print.

A 12MP camera has an image size of roughly 4,000 x 3,000 pixels. Assuming that 3,000 pixels is the width of the photo, that would be a 10-inch wide image -- suitable for a cover shot.

Photos on the web require less resolution than print photos do, so if it is good enough for print, it's good enough for the web.

FWIW, I had many pictures published from 1.5MP and 4MP cameras. They didn't have enough resolution for a cover photo, but they were fine for 1-2 columns wide.
