My First Documentary

Hi Guys,

This was my first attempt in making a “documentary”. It was not a commercial work – only meant to be something for building up my portfolio.

The story is based on Melisa Dawn (a.k.a “Mermaid Melissa”), an aquatic performer from the US whose performances attract quite a large crowd.

The documentary was not meant to be a fan video, but perhaps more on the line of a promotional story or infomercial. I became involved in this when I was researching clips for another documentary I had in mind. The “client” became interested when I proposed making a documentary on her work.

This is by no way a professional thing. Except for two of my stock clips, all of the footages were provided by the “client” (hence the different qualities all over the place). However, I did research the whole thing, conducted the interview remotely, went through all the materials I could get my hands on and wrote the script myself. I did not have access to a sound studio so I recorded my narration late at night when the street sounds subsided :=))...Finally I edited the whole thing in Sony Vegas Movie Studio 10 and Sony Sound Forge Studio. What came out was the result of a solid few weeks of late night work.

It’s been an interesting project for a starter. Here are the links:
