Time Lapse

Yes you can get good nightime timelapse video with a good video camera. The clip below was shot on a Sony EX1 with a slow shutter speed to get the car lights blurred effect. But that is a reasonably expensive camera so bang for buck hard to beat the Canon DSLR's. Jason: Video camera's dont have ISO but they do have Gain . . . isn't that the same thing/different name?

My understanding is that gain in electronic circuits is comparable to chemical sensitivity of film (ISO), although gain from circuit amplifiers is susceptible to electronic noise, input bias current, temperature, etc...

That one does look good. How does it do at capturing stars?

For capturing stars there is a whole process that is very specific to be successful. A very time consuming process too as there you actually work with the shutter being open for 30 seconds for each shot.

No i mean, how are video cameras at star time lapse.

Like Vader said a star timelapse requires the shutter to be open for at least 30 seconds per frame and video camera's can't come close to that(mine can't anyway).

That is kind of what I was getting at. Most of the limitations of video camera time lapse are the low light stuff.
