Basic lenses to have for Canon dslr?

I'm looking to get a Canon dslr very soon. This is my first dslr and am wondering which lenses I should have to get me started? I'm thinking of getting the 18-55mm kit lens for the T4i or T5i and possibly ordering the 55-250mm lens as well. Will this be enough to get me started if using primarily for stock video?

If you are considering the T4i or T5i - then take a hard look at the 18-135STM - great lens for the money.

If you but the T5i from B&H with 18-135mm is stm lens for 1349.00 and you would save 149.00 over the same camera with 18-55mm kit lens. The 18-135mm lens retails for 549.00 by it self.

Or you buy the T5i body only for 749.00 and the 18-135mm IS STM lens for 549.00 for a total of 1298.00 and save even more.

I see that B&H has discontinued the T4i body only.

So do you both think the 18-135mm lens is better to have than the 55-250mm lens? I've found reputable sellers on amazon selling T5i new (w/ 18-55mm) and the 55-250mm lens (separately) for a total of $937 shipped.

Sorry - I have no experience with the 55-250mm

By far. I have both those lenses 18-55mm/55-250mm kit lenses and if you want use a 1.4x teleconverter you can't.

Where did you get that price from?

Don't forget to buy one nifty fifty (50mm f1.8), this is such great lens in any occasion, that I used it in most shootings. I used canons 18-135mm too. It's great lens too.

But later check the old manual lenses. They have very good f-stop (2.8 and above), they are freaking cheap and they have very good quality.

there are private sellers on amazon that I found selling under the "used" section but they are actually brand new according to description notes. Amazon won't let most private sellers list anything as "new". i look for those with good ratings, like 95% or better feedback. Amazon pretty much has your back if you buy something and it's not what was described.

@Measter
Thanks for the tip on the 50mm. I may have to add that to my amazon cart before I check out =)

...ditto on the "nifty fifty" :)

Canon 70-200 L. Really any of the version are excellent. I use both the 70-200L f4 and the 70-200 f2.8 IS. I would say more than half my footage and photos get theses lenses. I use them on 5D MK II and MK III with full sensor. I also have used them a lot on 7D. Can't go wrong with these. Also the Canon 17-40 L f4 is excellent for wide angle.
