After long time thinking about now i got my 1st slider and i'm really happy how smooth it works. There are so much possibilities and so much price ranges if you look for a spider, but when reading comments/ratings it becomes more and more difficult to choose one.
As i don't know if i really will use it more often and if i'm not to lazy for carrying it with me i wouldn't buy an expensive motorized one for the start. Better to see in the practice first if it's a personal usefull tool.
So if somebody else thinks about trying out a cheap slider, this one runs very smooth and has best ratings.
Now i'll think about a DIY construction with a slow running motor which will pull the camera from one side to the other.

I've buy a Konova few years ago and I've just bought a dynamic perception motorised unit with pan and tilt. I hope you'll enjoy it as I do with mine, slider moves are always eyes catching

Now i'm only waiting for a possibility to use it, the last days the weather is always flat grey cloudy. I think most usefull it will be for me in the nature where i often tried to get handheld moves which are nearly unimpossible.

I built myself a motorised slider system with parts from servocity.com
You can watch some samples from a sculpture park here:

and here is the actual slider with DIY motor system:
https://vimeo.com/106394732
This can make some very interesting footage, not possible to do on freehand. The drawback is that there is a lot more to carry if you need to hike out in nature. But I use it quite often as the footage are way more interesting than static footage.

The demo video mis great, but i think about a more simple construction which need only a very slow running motor. A wheel tightened at the motor axle can roll up a stitch which pulls the camera sledge.
That's my idea.

Beckhusen, why reinvent the wheel? You could buy basic controller and gearmotors from Dynamic Perception, and install them on your cart.
After a year or so carting around Cineslider and Second Shooter, which is powerful, but very heavy to haul, I got Edelkrone slider to put on my tripod head, so I can do pan/tilt and slide and hike...it's still 30lbs of kit to haul, but better than having to choose either slider OR tripod when hiking.
One thing I've learned is that every system has strengths and weaknesses ... best of luck to you!

ha ha, no, i won't reinvent the wheel, but unfortunately money isn't growing on trees here. So for a first try out and just4fun i think about a max cheap and simple solution. When i see that i use it more often, then of course it may be interesting to buy a professional system.

"30lbs of kit to haul"
That is great, not for Stefan, I guess. He did not want to carry a heavier tripod, forget about 15kg. Way too much to carry in the wood or mountain. To hire a coolie for the job would be ideal, but expensive in Germany !!!
I bought a Beholder and try to replace tripod for most of the time. I hope ....

@Beckhusen Same problem for me, I've purchased my DPerpection for a documentary project and now I can't use it because of the bad weather.
