HD video pricing

I've said it before and I think it is statistically accurate. After many heated discussions regarding prices I dropped over 2,500 footage to the bottom dweller world a year ago ($15). Left them there for over six months. Yes a few more sales (maybe but not sure) but significantly less profit. I raised prices back up and profit went up. I do not believe for a minute a $15 clip will sell four times more often than the same clip priced at $60. A two week test is completely not useable as a statistic in the stock world. Even six months is probably too short but at least it does give the searches the ability to work for a valid length of time. Of the people who actively participate in the forum, almost all are higher priced sellers and are making a very good income from stock. Ya a dead horse but with thousands of new artists coming in from the dollar photo stock world they need a little education on how to make a profit on footage and not just a hobby that kills the industry faster than it would normally be. Just waiting for Jason to bring the dead horse drawing back ... it really does need this discussion every few months for the new artists to think about ... it all new to them.

Looking at the best of week I see that the rat coming out of the wall sold again for $199. (good for them) Why would someone use a rat for $199 if an elephant can be bought for $10? Look at how much more animal you get for the money. Of coarse it's not the size of the animal or even if the quality of the elephant is better, it's whether clip fits the need of the producer. Then it's quantity of rat clips vs quality available.

I'll take a rat everyday over an elephant ... cheaper to feed and easier to bath ;) So over the long run ... the $199 rat is much cheaper than the $10 elephant!!

Bottom line: One would think that if one observes the going's on in the Artist Resources pages (Week and Month) that one would start considering raising prices. And no TMP, what I state is fact... the proof is in the Artist Resources..

Elephants are notoriously bad actors. Plus, rats are union. The ability to organize and work as a team has really kept their prices in the $200 range.

At least they never forget their lines :-)

Really now, the problem using an elephant in place of a rat is that they come out like toothpaste when you push them through the hole.

The rats all get their name in the best of week and best of month in sellers resources. The low life bottom feeder elephants are long forgotten and make very little. Vader is right, the seller resources tells the whole story. $100-300 footage sell very well here ... many are very normal everyday so-so quality too.

What is the difference between a train and a rat?
SimpleIconic 23 Oct 2012 16:17
Trains don't frighten elephants.
