But with a bigger hammer you have a better chance of hitting that nail :-).

There is a point where the technology goes beyond what the end user needs. The only difference I see is HDV or HD formats. If I think I'm going to be shooting for major networks ( BBC or Discovery) custom made documentaries, I might be tempted to go down the HD route.

For Stock, HDV would seem to be OK with the Canon XH-A1 or Sony version, or Canon 5D MKll or even the new Panasonic GH1. The rolling shutter is only the issue if I shake the camera around, or have lots of camera flash going off. For the majority of stock shooting, I'm locked down on a tripod and no one is around flashing their whatever, (other than the talent).

If I'm shooting motion or panning and want a sharp frame I can always shoot progressive and get smooth action.

Buyers buy footage from P&S, HDV consumer and HDV prosumer cameras, lets not get caught up on the hardware, at the expense of not shooting and submitting content.

Here is a video still from the mark2 where we were going pretty fast:

I don't see any rolling shutter. I think You have to be going real fast.

iron:
- "you are confusing production value with data integrity"
On the contrary, I was trying to clarify the difference, the confusion was made in previous posts.
- "You aren't supposed to read the side of a moving tram because there is motion blur"
Certainly, there is motion blur, but as far as I know motion blur is not reduced to perfect parallel and equally distanced lines.

dapoopta: Yes, I have a Sony TRV 420E and I wanna buy an HD camera. This is why I am hardly trying to clarify as many aspects as possible before spending 3000 - 5000 USD. Am I wrong?

Indeed, extra data wouldn't help production value, but it might severely reduce it. And as vadervideo says: "PV comes from the guy that is using the equipment".

I am out of bullets and running as fast as a horse.

Ionescu,
Nobody is shooting. But you had to know the hell storm that was coming from your comments. LOL

This is one of the behind the scenes photos from Crank.
They were trying to show the camera operator using a fig rig with the Canon.
I studied this photo for about an hour until I saw the camera guy behind the girl.
Not sure why my attention wasn't focused on the camera...... :-)

And he's not even using a larger aux tv or monitor either, just the flip out small viewer.
.
Heck no one here knows how to shoot straight enough to hit anyone, normally pretty safe to write anything, we have all realized that thick skin is sometimes needed here but for themost part it's just opinions. Heck if there was a best camera or method then there would only be a couple cameras being sold instead of dozens. We all know the hype about Red but other than the high end they have failed to come forward. The technology is there for lots of upgrades but the costs can't be controlled enough for mass marketing. It's just fun here even when ya get mad about some comments ;)

You said all HDV cameras are crap, and not worth investing in... I thought you were implying that you couldn't use them professionally.

OK I didn't know you were talking about the parellel line thing. I thought you were saying you were supposed to be able to read the logo. When video is in motion you don't see that because the eye is tricked, the compression is using an optical illusion. If you wanted to you could add directional blur and a mask to the clip, that way it can be a totally clean blur. But In my opinion that is pointless to fix.

Remember RED is trying to sell cameras, they will say whatever sells, Im not trying to sell anything. I don't care what you all buy lol. The only need I see for using uncompressed footage is that sometimes it makes it easier to add effects and stuff, and after im done I compress it to photojpeg and delete the uncompressed version.

There is no way you can compair a 5D to the Red One except for the price of the 5D.
dapoopta 19 Mar 2009 23:22
You are saying the RED ONE is gonna be that much better Jason? Also, the price of the Red One is going to be huge, after you 'build' what you need.
